Separation of metals from Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF) - the most powerful separator on a special price! (case study)

Initial status

The Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF) and Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF) represent an important source of energy in modern industry. However, when using SRF or RDF, the presence of metals can be a problem as the metal objects may damage the combustion equipment. For this reason, it is necessary to remove ferrous contamination from SRF or RDF to ensure the safety and efficiency of energy processes.

Our customer is one of the leading producers of alternative fuels from sorted waste in the Czech Republic. 

To his customers belong heavy engineering industries that are trying to reduce their ecological impact and switch to sustainable energy sources:

  • Cement factories
  • Glassworks
  • Lime works
  • etc.


The unwanted presence of metals in the SRF causes damage to the combustion technology of the end customer.  That is why the end clients carefully evaluate the quality of the purchased fuels.

The SRF manufacturer is pride of the quality of the produced solid recovered fuels, so he needed to find an efficient, reliable, and automated way how to remove ferrous objects from SRF.


Overband magnet with automatic cleaning DND-AC Mx8 F BEAST After a thorough analysis of the production technology and evaluation of the on-site situation, our technical salesman recommended separating ferrous metals after the waste has been crushed (the waste is crushed into a size of 0 - 300 mm and then transported for further processing by a 1,4 m wide conveyor belt). The height of the material layer transported on the conveyor belt is 300 mm.

We proposed to use a self-cleaning overband magnet placed over the belt conveyor. Due to the material properties and the height of the material layer on the conveyor belt, we recommended installing the overband magnet MxF BEAST (that is fitted with ferrite magnets).

The magnetic separators from the product line MxF BEAST belong to the STRONGEST OVERBANDS IN THE WORLD - THAT IS WHY THEY CAN BE SUSPENDED 500 MM ABOVE THE BELT CONVEYOR!

Even from this distance, they are able to separate ferrous particles, which was necessary in this case.
