Magnetic testing rods MTH with a tip and a T-bar handle

Magnetic testing rods with a tip MTH

The stainless steel encased rare earth inspection rod MTH is designed to test bulk products for ferrous contamination and to remove ferrous particles from the product in hard-to-reach zones. The magnetic tube probe is used at scrap yards & recycling centers for the inspection of the collected non-ferrous metals, at critical control points (CCP) of the production lines etc. The very strong neodymium NdFeB magnets inside of the inspection rod can also detect even the finest ferromagnetic particles in plastic materials (such as plastic regrind and granules, crushed plastic materials, plastic crumb, rejected plastics etc.).

How is the checking magnet MTH used?

Just insert the magnetic probe into the tested material in several locations and remove it slowly to check for ferrous contaminants on the magnetic tube probe.

Cleaning of the magnetic stick

The checking magnet is light-weight, easy to handle and can be cleaned quickly and efficiently by realeasing the catch and sliding out the magnetic inner tube (which causes the magnetic particles to fall away).

The magnetic testing rod MTH with tip is a hand-held inspection tool for rapid detection of ferromagnetic impurities — typically in scrap metal buying or quality control of plastic materials (regranulates and grinds). The tip allows the rod to be inserted deep into bulk material to check its inner layers as well. The sibling rod MTV lacks the tip and is suitable for surface inspection only.

The MTH is equipped with powerful NdFeB neodymium magnets with an induction of 13,500 G, enabling it to capture ferromagnetic particles as small as 1 micron. This means it detects even trace amounts of magnetic metals that are invisible to the naked eye — and it is precisely this sensitivity that makes it a reliable tool for quality control of granulates and regranulates.

The operator inserts the rod tip-first into the incoming material — scrap, turnings or granulates — and after withdrawal visually checks whether magnetic particles or metal objects have been captured on the active part (160 mm). The presence of captured material indicates magnetic metals in the sample and provides grounds for a complaint or revaluation of the delivery.

The MTH has a telescopic design: pulling the handle slides the permanent magnets out of the stainless steel tube, and captured metal contaminants fall off on their own without direct hand contact. Cleaning is fast and hygienic — the rod is immediately ready for the next inspection.

Yes, the MTH is manufactured in a fully stainless steel waterproof design, making it resistant to moisture, rain, and the harsher environments typical of scrap yards and recycling centres. The stainless construction also guarantees a long service life under daily intensive use.

We see the MTH used in the plastics industry for detecting ferromagnetic contamination in regranulates and grinds, as well as in the food, chemical, automotive and engineering industries — wherever magnetic metals in a material need to be verified by hand without the need for laboratory equipment.

Yes — we offer loan of the unit along with free testing of your material on our equipment, with results guaranteed within three days. The MTH is also available from stock immediately and can be ordered directly from our e-shop.

Which industrial branches can the magnetic inspection rod be used in?

The magnetic probes find use e. g. in recycling and plastic industry.
