Case study

Principal types of challenges

  • there are also ferrous and non-ferrous adulterants (cans, lids, plugs etc.) in the quantity of some per cents besides all types of plastic (PET, HDPE, PP, plastic sheet, tetrapack etc.) ocurring in the plastic municipal waste of relatively big fraction (of 50 x 10 x 1 mm to 300 x 250 x 1 mm)
  • big quantity being processed (up to 1,800 kg/hour) and a high layer of the material
  • being transported
  • need of separating of both magnetic and non-magnetic metal adulterants

Solution provided by SOLLAU s.r.o. company: a set of separators for separation of both  magnetic and  non-magnetic metal adulterantshas been delivered. The ferrite magnet above DND-AC Ms4 EKO conveyor-belt with automatic cleaning  has a deep magnetic field and that is why it manages to pull out ferromagnetic objects out of the depth of up to 320 mm and at the same time it portects against the damage by iron particles also ECS-C 2000 RAM separator for non-ferrous metals. MV 245 N 1200  neodym magnetic roller separates the iron contaminants from the lower layers of the material and it protects ECS-C 2000 RAM magnetic separator against the damage. ECS-C 2000 RAM  separator for non-ferrous metals having a magnetic rotor laid centrically  catches all bigger and well-conductive non-magnetic objects in a reliable way.

This line is not designed to sort plastics by material type or colour — its sole purpose is to remove metallic contaminants (both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic) from mixed plastic waste prior to further processing. It does not include a NIR spectrometer or any sorting into plastic fractions. It is suitable for operations that need to clean incoming plastic material of metals, not to sort plastic waste.

The line processes up to 1,800 kg of material per hour. It is designed for mixed municipal plastic waste — PET, HDPE, PP, film, Tetra Pak — containing a few percent of metallic contaminants: cans, caps, closures. The processed fraction ranges in size from 50×10×1 mm to 300×250×1 mm.

The DND-AC Ms4 EKO overband electromagnet captures ferromagnetic metals from the upper layers of material above the conveyor belt. The MV 254 N 1200 magnetic roller with neodymium magnets then separates ferromagnetic particles from the lower layers — i.e. metals that the overband magnet would not have caught. Both devices also serve as protection for the ECS separator against any metallic objects that could damage its rotor.

The ECS-C 2000 RAM eddy current separator, with a concentrically positioned rotor for a belt width of 2,000 mm, separates non-ferromagnetic metals — aluminium, copper and other non-ferrous metals — from the plastic stream. It operates on the principle of inducing eddy currents in non-magnetic metals, which thereby acquire a repulsive force and are ejected from the material flow. The 2,000 mm belt width ensures sufficient capacity even when processing thicker layers of material.

Every separation line is designed and manufactured to measure according to the specific type of material, its granulometry and the required capacity. We also supply lines for sorting municipal waste, glass waste and other materials — we always adapt the equipment configuration to the specific application.

The delivery covers the entire process — from site survey, engineering and custom manufacturing through installation, commissioning and operator training to authorised service throughout the equipment's lifetime. We provide a warranty of up to 10 years on the magnetic core of the DND-AC overband electromagnet, and a 5-year warranty on the magnetic core of the MV roller separator. Before placing an order, we offer free testing of your material with a guaranteed turnaround of three days.
