Power supply for portable lighted marker
A portable lighted marker can be powered in several ways:
- Direct connection to the airport distribution grid
- Petrol inverter generator (1kW) with 120 litre petrol tank, backup battery (150Ah) and warning beacon. When the tank is full, it enables autonomous operation of the lighted marker for 1 week at the maximum daytime lighting output.
- Powerful battery set (150Ah, 24V) – approx. 16 hours
In the event of a generator failure, an additional gel battery (150Ah) that lasts approx. 16 hours takes over the power supply. In the event of an outage, the orange warning beacon is automatically activated.
Lighting parameters:
A portable lighted runway closure marker is equipped with modern InLED lights with a lifetime of more than 70,000 hours. Their brilliant optics guarantee good visibility of the device in any conditions.
The lights’ output greatly exceeds all FAA requirements for light intensity. The manufacturer declares that the lights’ output can be increased by about 40%.
Type | FIREFLY 4 – 4.27 m | FIREFLY 6 – 6.4 m |
---|---|---|
Number of lights | 13 In LED lights | 17 In LED lights |
Maximum daytime luminance | ||
in beam centre | 93,470 cd | 122,230 cd |
in a 10° radius | 52,000 cd | 68,000 cd |
in a 15° radius | 14,300 cd | 18,700 cd |
Maximum nighttime luminance (3% of daytime intensity) | ||
in beam centre | 2,804 cd | 3,667 cd |
in a 10° radius | 1,560 cd | 2,040 cd |
in a 15° radius | 429 cd | 561 cd |
The FAA minimum requirements are:
- At least 70,000 cd in the beam centre – the FIREFLY 4 (93,470 cd) exceeds the requirements by 33%!
- At least 70,000 cd in the beam centre – the FIREFLY 6 (122,230 cd) exceeds the requirements by 74%
Three light modes
The LED lights can operate in one of three modes:
- Day – the lights operate at the intensity required for daytime operation
- Night – the lights operate at the intensity required for nighttime operation
- AUTO – the light sensor automatically adjusts the light intensity according to outdoor lighting conditions
Flashing lights
In each mode the lights are “on” for 2.5 seconds and “off” for 2.5 seconds as required by the FAA.
As required by the ICAO, the lights are “on” for 1 second and “off” for 1 second.
Light colour
The lights are aviation white as required by the FAA in SAE-AS25050 and in accordance with EASA CS ADR-DSN.U.930.
Reliability warrantee
Each light has a separate power supply circuit built in, so it operates completely autonomously.
If the control electronics, which determine the intensity and flashing interval, malfunction, the lights stop flashing and continue to operate at maximum intensity. This solution guarantees functional reliability.
