Magnetic cascade MSK-MC is designed for high-capacity transport systems (in particular for gravity-flow pipelines) where the application of other types of magnetic separators would be difficult or even impossible.

Design of the magnetic hump

The SOLLAU cascade magnetic separator is equipped with a set of large magnetic plates from which ferromagnetic impurities can easily be removed thanks to the system of extraction plates (after opening the door of the magnetic plate, the magnetic core will be pushed away from the protective stainless steel plate and the ferromagnetic particles accumulated on its surface fall off spontaneously).

How does a hump magnet work?

Since the magnetic plates are placed in the separator walls, allowing free flow of material (including less permeable materials that would block the magnetic grate separators), the cascade magnetic separator is capable of processing enormous quantities of material (up to 350 m3 per hour). The cascade form of this separator slows down the material flow and repeatedly guides it to the magnetic plates, what dramatically improves the efficiency of the separation process.

Further advantages of the magnetic hump MSK-MC

Another advantage of this separator is its simple inner configuration (typically, large smooth areas) allowing the application of various kinds of anti-abrasive protection (such as ceramic plates, flexible polyurethane or rubber coating, chemical nickel plating etc.), which significantly extend the practical applicability of the machine.

The MSK-MC separator is delivered including flanges to allow the connection to the customer’s existing piping system.

Our portfolio includes various versions of the magnet humps, with magnetic fields of various strengths, depending on the type of the applied magnets (ferrites, neodymium magnets or a combination of both). Ferrite magnets are able to remove larger contaminants (such as nuts, screws and washers), the strong neodymium magnets can finalize the cleaning process (as they are powerful enough to capture fine ferromagnetic particles in size from 60 µm).

We recommend the MSK-MC for high-capacity gravity pipe systems where the installation of other types of separators would be difficult or impossible — for example, where grid separators would block poorly-flowing materials or where a standard separator cross-section is insufficient for the required flow rate. The magnetic plates are positioned in the walls of the separator and do not restrict the free flow of material; the cascade configuration simultaneously slows the flow, repeatedly guides it onto the magnetic plates and significantly increases separation efficiency.

Material passes through a series of magnetic plates positioned in the walls of the separator. The cascade arrangement slows the material flow and repeatedly guides it in a controlled manner onto the magnetic surfaces — each pass increases the probability of capturing ferromagnetic contaminants. Thanks to smooth internal surfaces free of obstacles in the material flow, the MSK-MC is also suitable for materials that would clog other types of separators.

We manufacture the MSK-MC in three configurations: ferrite (2,700 G, capture from 1.5 mm), neodymium (capture from 60 micrometres) and combined — ferrite plates first remove coarser contaminants, neodymium plates complete the final cleaning. The neodymium version is available on request.

Cleaning is manual and takes place without dismantling the separator. When the doors are opened, the magnetic cores automatically move away from the protective stainless steel plate — ferromagnetic particles captured on the surface of the protective plate fall off on their own. The simple geometry of the internal arrangement with smooth surfaces facilitates both cleaning and, where necessary, the application of an anti-abrasion protective coating.

Yes. The smooth internal surfaces of the separator can be provided with an anti-abrasion protective coating depending on the specific application — for example ceramic tiles, a layer of resilient polyurethane or rubber, or chemically deposited nickel. This significantly extends the service life of the separator even in operations with highly abrasive materials.

The MSK-MC is used for cleaning granular, powdered and grainy materials — including grains, legumes, plastic granulate or powder raw materials — in food processing, animal feed production, pharmaceuticals, woodworking, chemical and ceramic industries. Its high capacity (up to 365 m³/h) makes it ideal for high-volume production lines.

We supply the MSK-MC as standard in six sizes with maximum capacities from 45 to 365 m³/h and inlet/outlet dimensions from 400 × 200 mm to 1,500 × 300 mm. The separator is supplied with flanges for connection to the customer's existing pipework; custom manufacturing and multi-stage separation configuration are available on request. We carry out tests of your material free of charge with results within 3 working days.
