Our company is a specialist in field of magnetic separation

We develop, produce and apply devices for magnetic separation. Our magnetic separators are designed and manufactured exactly in a made-to-measure way as per your needs.

FIELD OF APPLICATION – CHEMICAL INDUSTRY, COATINGS

Chemical industry, coatings The chemical industry covers both inorganic and organic chemistry, the production of fertilizers, plastics and polymers, washing powders and detergents, paints, varnishes and pigments, agrochemistry, the rubber industry as well as fine chemistry and pharmaceuticals.

The common denominator is the processing of bulk powders, granulates and liquids, in which even a tiny metal contamination damages expensive machines (mills, crushers, extruders, granulators, pumps), degrades the product and jeopardises compliance with standards.

Did you know…? Our drawer grate separators reach an induction of up to 18,700 G on the core and capture ferromagnetic particles from as little as 1 µm – i.e. even microscopic stainless-steel abrasion and rust that ordinary magnets let through. For comparison: even top foreign separators for battery powders work with an induction of around 12,000 G on the bars.

WHY ARE MAGNETIC SEPARATORS AND METAL DETECTORS USED IN THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY?

Chemical media are demanding: fine, often abrasive and explosive in a dusty state. The metal contamination in them is usually small and weakly magnetic – and yet it can damage a machine worth hundreds of thousands or spoil an entire batch of product.

Capture of particles from 1 micron

Protection of machinery

Metal damages mills, crushers, mixers, granulators, screws and extruder nozzles as well as pumps. With injection moulding machines and extruders, the damage from a single metal fragment runs into thousands of dollars per nozzle or screw. The equation holds: metal in the granulate = a clogged nozzle, a damaged screw and a defective product.

Product cleanliness and quality

Fine stainless-steel abrasion and rust cause product discolouration, colour defects in pigments and off-spec batches; with carbon black they even change the electrical conductivity. Removing weakly magnetic impurities is decisive for meeting customer specifications and for the number of complaints.

Safety and ATEX design

Many chemical powders form an explosive dust atmosphere. We supply the separators in ATEX design, in a stainless-steel construction (DIN 1.4301) with polished surfaces (Ra down to 0.14 µm).

Introducing magnetic separation into chemical plants protects mills, extruders and pumps, removes fine abrasion and rust from powders, granulates and liquids and ensures the cleanliness and consistent quality of the product. This has a positive impact on the profitability and efficiency of production.

WHERE IN THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY WILL YOU FIND OUR MAGNETIC SEPARATORS?

Inorganic chemistry and liquid process media

The production and processing of powdered and crystalline inorganic compounds (salts, sulphates, phosphates, carbonates) as well as liquid media (acids, alkalis, ammonia) requires the capture of fine abrasion and rust from mills and pipelines.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

Grate separators are installed in gravity flow at the inlet of raw material into the mill and at the outlet before packaging, and magnetic filters into the liquid pipeline. For hot and pressurised media we supply double-jacket versions.

Advantages of the drawer grate separators MSS-MC:

  • Induction up to 18,700 G on the core / 12,200 G on the housing, Fe capture from 1 µm
  • Stainless-steel construction, polished surfaces (Ra down to 0.14 µm), ATEX design
  • 5-year warranty

PHOTOS FROM PRACTICE

Organic and fine chemistry, intermediates

The production of powdered organic intermediates, active and auxiliary substances and the incoming inspection of raw materials require maximum cleanliness and hygiene. Weakly magnetic impurities from stainless steel and abrasion must be removed as early as the receipt of raw materials and in the intermediate flow.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

Grate MSS-MC in a polished (hygienic) design prove themselves during the receipt of raw materials and before packaging; the rotational MSR-MC with a double grate delivers the highest cleanliness thanks to fourfold separation and handles even poorly flowing powders. From practice: when processing rosin resin, a chute magnet / magnetic lantern ML 250 N protected the crusher and reduced its maintenance costs. For demanding pharmaceutical plants we have a separate page Pharmaceutical industry.

Production of fertilizers and agrochemistry

Grinding, mixing and granulation of fertilizers and the production of powdered and granulated agrochemical preparations means abrasive material and the risk of metal fragments as well as packaging residues.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

Washing powders, detergents and soaps

During the mixing, drying and filling of detergent powders and surfactants, rust and metal abrasion cause product discolouration and complaints.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

The separators are installed in the intermediate gravity flow and before packaging; for continuous operation without interrupting the flow, the self-cleaning TARANTULA is ideal. The benefit is consistent product colour and quality and fewer complaints.

Paints, varnishes, pigments and fillers (coatings)

Grinding and processing of pigments and fillers (TiO₂, CaCO₃, talc, kaolin) and the production of liquid and powdered coatings are sensitive to colour defects from metallic and weakly magnetic admixtures.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

For powders, the grate MSS-MC and MBZ drums downstream of the pigment mill are used; for liquid coatings and suspensions the matrix MX-MC, which also captures paramagnetic particles (biotite, muscovite, garnet, iron silicates) causing colour defects, and the flow-through MSP-AC with automatic cleaning.

The benefit is higher brightness and purity of the pigment and compliance with quality standards.

Metal detection, sieving and supplementary equipment

Magnets do not capture non-magnetic and stainless metals – these are revealed by metal detectors as the last control stage. Sieving and dosing are provided by vibrating screens and feeders.

The following equipment is most commonly used:

The detectors are placed after the magnets as a final control and, upon finding a non-magnetic metal (stainless steel, aluminium, copper), they stop the line; the vibrating screens of the C-line/X-line/T-line series sort the fractions and the feeders ensure precise dosing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For gravity flow of fine powders, the grate MSS-MC is used (up to 18,700 G on the core, Fe capture from 1 µm), for continuous operation without interrupting the flow the self-cleaning MSSJ-AC TARANTULA, and for arching powders the rotational MSR-MC. The high induction and neodymium magnets capture even weakly magnetic stainless-steel abrasion.

For liquid pipelines, the MSP-S magnetic filter is suitable, capturing even paramagnetic particles from ~1 µm, or the automatically cleaned MSP-AC. For pressurised and hot media we supply double-jacket and pressure-certified versions.

Yes – we supply the separators in ATEX design. Many chemical powders form an explosive dust atmosphere, which is why ATEX is the standard choice for self-cleaning grates, drums and pipeline filters.

The manual grate MSS-MC are suitable for lower contamination and sufficient operating staff; for high contamination or continuous operation, choose the self-cleaning MSSJ-AC TARANTULA / MSSO-AC BLACK WIDOW or the MBZ drums, which are cleaned without interrupting the material flow.

The price depends on the method of material transport, capacity, required induction, design (ATEX, polished/hygienic, double-jacket) and certification – we manufacture each device to measure. Free of charge and within 3 days we will test a sample of your material and propose a solution; request a non-binding quotation.
