Initial situation
In chemical production using liquid ammonia, medium purity is crucial. Even tiny metal particles can degrade product quality, damage equipment and, in extreme cases, lead to customer complaints.
In a water-treatment technology with an ammonia admixture, it was necessary to prevent iron filings and metallic fragments originating from pipelines and fittings from entering the product. The existing filtration, however, was not able to capture all metallic contaminants.

Problem description
During production, small ferromagnetic particles generated by equipment wear entered the system. These metallic residues affected the quality of the outlet ammonia, caused unwanted deposits and increased the frequency of complaints.
