Efficient removal of ferrous contaminants from slag and foundry sand in the Holcim Magyarország Kft cement plant (case study)
How we could reliably separate tramp metals from slag and foundry sand by installing an overband magnet in a Holcim cement plant.
The Holcim Magyarország Kft. Company operates a cement plant in Királyegyházi, i. e., in a clay and limestone mine in Bükkösd. This cement plant is one of the leading producers of building materials in Hungary and puts an accent on environmental protection and the quality of products.
The Királyegyházi Cement Plant has invested 4.5 billion HUF in the ecological treatment of waste (the amount of the treated waste equals to the annual waste production of the entire Baranya district). By replacing 90 % of fossil fuels with alternative ones, it has achieved more than 50 % reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of cement since 2011.
Problem
The processed slag and foundry sand contained large amounts of iron contaminants, previously removed by a manually cleaned electromagnet. However, this solution was not effective enough due to the increased volume of the processed material and higher metal contamination.
Solution
We recommended to apply our customer the self-cleaning overband magnet DND-AC Ms2 F – Jaguar, which can be easily suspended over the conveyor. Thanks to its high efficiency and fully automated operation it has enabled a significant reduction in iron contamination.
After successful testing, the customer ordered 2 separators. After a month of use, he was so satisfied with the separation quality that he ordered two more of the same separators. This confirms that the equipment works perfectly and meets the high industrial demands.
