Our company is a specialist in field of magnetic separation

We develop, produce and apply devices for magnetic separation. Our magnetic separators are designed and manufactured exactly in a made-to-measure way as per your needs.

Three-phase slag separation: how the double-deck magnetic drum DMBZ 304 N 1800 pushed product purity to the maximum (case study)

When processing slag, every detail matters. Metal impurities that remain in the final material mean lower product quality, poorer marketability, and unnecessary losses. That is why one slag-processing operator decided to go beyond basic magnetic separation.

The customer already uses an automatic overband magnet DND-AC in their plant, which reliably removes coarse metal impurities directly from the conveyor. But for slag, that is not enough.

The goal was to achieve the highest possible purity of the final product.

The key to success: more separation stages

Single-stage separation will never capture everything. Some metals remain:

  • in the finer fraction,
  • partially embedded in the material,
  • or escape at high conveyor speed.

Therefore, it was decided to strengthen separation with two additional stages – exactly where magnetic separation is most efficient: at the material transfer point.

Solution: the double-deck magnetic drum DMBZ 304 N 1800

A double-deck, fully enclosed magnetic drum DMBZ 304 N 1800 was installed beneath the conveyor transfer – a truly giant piece of equipment, custom-built for this demanding application.

Technical facts that speak for themselves:

  • drum width: 1,800 mm
  • 2 magnetic drums stacked vertically
  • diameter of each drum: 304 mm
  • equipped with the strongest neodymium magnets
  • total weight: 1,057 kg

Two magnetic drums stacked above each other deliver perfect two-stage separation – the material is progressively “cleaned” so that even very fine ferromagnetic impurities have no chance of passing through.

Three-phase separation: a virtually perfect system

The entire separation process now works in three steps:

  • DND-AC above the belt conveyor
removal of coarse metal pieces during transport
  • Upper DMBZ magnetic drum
capture of residual metals at the transfer point
  • Lower DMBZ magnetic drum
final polishing of the material from fine metal impurities

The result is three-phase magnetic separation that, in practice, comes close to absolute slag purity.

Operational results

After installing the double-deck magnetic drum, the customer recorded:

  • a significant increase in final product purity,
  • better marketability of the slag,
  • minimal residual metal content,
  • stable and unattended operation.

Separation is no longer the weak point of the technology – on the contrary, it has become one of its greatest advantages.

Conclusion

This case study clearly shows that with demanding materials such as slag, one magnetic separation stage is not enough. Real results come only with a multi-stage system, where each stage plays its role.

DMBZ 304 N 1800 is not just a magnetic drum.
It is a massive, double-deck heart of the separation technology that, together with DND-AC, forms three-phase magnetic separation at a top level.

If you want maximum purity, you have to go step by step. And each step must be strong.
