Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 C

The METRON 05 C tunnel metal detector with the integrated control unit is used to detect metal particles in products transported on the conveyor belts. In addition to the belt conveyor, this tunnel metal detector can also be installed on a vibrating feeder or a material chute.

Metal free zone - MFZ

It is essential for the proper metal detector functioning that there are no fixed (e.g. conveyor structure, its covering) or moving metal parts (e.g. conveyor rollers) in the proximity of the detector’s aperture. Therefore, the MFZ is defined for each detector and it should not contain moving or fixed metals. The aperture of the metal detector is to be placed in the middle of this metal free zone. When you observe the MFZ when installing the detector, you will prevent false alarms and false detections and contribute to the correct detector operation.

Sensitivity of a metal detector

Sensitivity of a metal detector METRON 05 CThe detector's sensitivity depends on many parameters, such as the aperture dimensions (the lower is the aperture height, the higher is the detector sensitivity), the conveyor belt speed, the density of the product, its temperature and humidity, etc.

Industrial metal detectors for conveyor belts are devices designed to detect metallic contaminants in materials transported on a conveyor, vibratory feeder, or material chute. They are installed directly on existing conveyor belts or as part of integrated conveyor systems. They serve either for product quality control or as protection of production equipment against damage by metals.

SOLLAU offers three main groups. Tunnel detectors: Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 D (split design, easy installation without stopping the belt), Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 C, Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 CI, and Tunnel metal detector METRON 07 CI (with imagePHASE and mesuCAGE technologies). Plate detectors: Plate metal detector METRON 03 SL (for low product heights, no MFZ required) and Plate metal detector METRON 05 S (most widely used model, width up to 6,000 mm). Also available: Metal detector for vibratory conveyors METRON 05 VT, the specialised Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 CO for the woodworking industry, and complete conveyor systems — Conveyor metal detector TRANSTRON and Metal detector TRANSTRON HL.

A tunnel metal detector surrounds the material from all sides — the detection head forms a frame through which the material passes. It provides precise detection and is suitable for various material heights. A plate metal detector is a flat detection plate installed directly in the conveyor, optimal for products with low to medium material height on the belt. Its main advantages are extremely easy installation, lower cost, and minimal or no Metal Free Zone requirements. The choice depends on material height, required sensitivity, and installation conditions.

The Metal Free Zone (MFZ) is a protective space around the detection head where no fixed or moving metals (conveyor frame, rollers) are permitted, to prevent false signals. The tunnel detectors METRON 05 C and METRON 05 D require an MFZ. The mesuCAGE technology on the Tunnel metal detector METRON 07 CI significantly reduces the MFZ. The Plate metal detector METRON 03 SL and the Metal detector for vibratory conveyors METRON 05 VT require no MFZ at all — making them the easiest to install. The Plate metal detector METRON 05 S and the Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 CO have only minimal MFZ requirements.

The tunnel detectors METRON 05 C, METRON 05 D, METRON 05 CI, and METRON 07 CI detect metals at conveyor speeds of up to 30 m/s. The Plate metal detector METRON 05 S is designed for conveyors with speeds up to 1.5 m/s (higher speeds available on request). The Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 CO for the woodworking industry handles speeds up to 6 m/s. Detector sensitivity also depends on aperture height, product density, temperature, and moisture content.

The detectors are equipped with three types of control units. The Plate metal detector METRON 03 SL uses the AMD 03 unit with optical signalling and conveyor vibration suppression. Most models — METRON 05 C, METRON 05 D, METRON 05 S, METRON 05 VT, METRON 05 CO, and METRON 05 CI — are fitted with the AMD 05 unit featuring a 5-line LCD display, 4 buttons, automatic product setting, and memory for 500 products. The Tunnel metal detector METRON 07 CI uses the advanced AMD 07 unit with a 5.7" colour touch display, Ethernet connectivity, remote access via mesuNET, and product visualisation using imagePHASE technology.

The portfolio covers a wide range of industrial applications. The Tunnel metal detector METRON 05 CO with its octagonal shape and stainless steel construction is specialised for the woodworking industry — it can inspect tree trunks with a diameter of up to 1,600 mm at conveyor speeds of up to 6 m/s. The Tunnel metal detector METRON 07 CI meets HACCP, IFS, BRC, and SQF hygiene standards, making it suitable for the food industry as well. The Metal detector for vibratory conveyors METRON 05 VT is ideal for vibratory feeders of all shapes. The degree of protection ranges from IP 54 to IP 69 K depending on the model.

The Conveyor metal detector TRANSTRON is a complete solution combining a custom-built conveyor with an industrial metal detector — most commonly the Tunnel metal detector METRON 07 CI or METRON 05 CI. The conveyor is designed precisely to the customer's requirements: correct MFZ compliance, integration into the existing line, and choice of rejection system. The Metal detector TRANSTRON HL is a variant for woodworking plants, the ideal complement to the METRON 05 CO. SOLLAU guarantees free material tests within three days and provides a full service cycle: site visit, assessment, custom manufacture, installation, commissioning, operator training, and authorised service.
